Boxes With Walls Made of Fear

Pharrell Williams, from a June New York Magazine article, with what has to be one of the better quotations you’ll read in any given year:

Every once in a while, when you really back me into a corner, I can do some kind of cool shit. But I wouldn’t want to live that way, in this box where all the walls are made of fear and people pointing expectations your way, rather than just starting from a blank canvas and being like, let’s just think as big as a blimpAnd let’s put Swarovski crystals all over it. And then someone can come and say, “Yeah, but you know, if you do a heated appliqué, it’s gonna work, but if you do it with prongs, the air is gonna leak.”

Obviously we’re a bit late to the game with this, but it was too good not to share. “Big as a blimp” seems like an underused simile. Make it your New Year’s resolution to change that in 2014.
